Educational Objectives
After completion of this certificate program, students will:

1. Understand and foster positive attitudes among health professionals regarding the important and mutually reinforcing links between health in all its dimensions and human rights ideals and laws.

2. Elaborate and explain details regarding the vital roles of health professionals in promoting human rights and building a ‘culture’ of human rights.

3. Build familiarity with international human rights standards, instruments, and the numerous state-based and international laws related to human rights, especially those that impact upon the health of populations and individuals.

4. Acquire the skills needed to investigate, analyze, and document abuses of human rights as they relate to health and public health practice.


Intended Audience
The Certificate Program in Health and Human is open to all degree candidates from any academic unit at The Johns Hopkins University.


Admissions Criteria
1. Prior admission to a Johns Hopkins University degree program.

2. A letter to one (or both) of the faculty sponsors requesting admission, outlining planned courses, and providing an estimated timetable for completion. (Choices can be modified with permission as needs change.)

3. Prior written approval of student's faculty advisor.
