Research Interests or Career Goals
OVERARCHING GOALS:
After several years of clinical experience I decided to take off the white coat to investigate what are the determinants of cardiovascular disease in type 2 diabetes mellitus. During these years at Hopkins I want to gain knowledge in cardiovascular and genetic epidemiology.

RESEARCH INTEREST:
Under the mentorship of Drs. Brancati, Clark and Kao, I am studying the genetic determinants of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, the most common form of liver disease in the Western world and frequently associated with type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS:
I arrived at School in 2005 with the objective of finishing the Master of Public Health. However, I realized that pursuing a PHD program would complement my interests. Then, I did successfully the transition from the MPH to the PHD program. This is a common path for many international medical graduates that aim to pursue a career in clinical research in the U.S.

Why I Chose Hopkins
Hopkins has offered me the opportunity to improve my knowledge. Hopkins also provides an excellent environment for the following reasons:

a) Excellent 'esprit de corps': students without competition
b) Competitive academic program
c) Outstanding and accessible faculty
d) Personal attention to the student: face-to-face
e) Competent staff

NO DOUBT: COME TO HOPKINS!
