Module Project
Module Project
Dr. Robert Blum devised the following tool for the purposes of this course. These questions represent those most frequently asked in major school climate, engagement, and connectedness assessment tools.
Complete this survey along with three of your colleagues. Answer yes or no to each of the questions to determine if students in your school feel connected. Discuss the areas you determine as needing improvement with other colleagues who completed the survey, then compile a list of recommendations to give to your school leadership. (Note: Standardized school climate evaluation tools are listed in the Resources area of this module.)
Survey: Evaluate the Engagement and Connectedness of Your School
- Do students express that they like going to school most days?
- Do very few students express the wish to quit school?
- Do students see your school as a safe place:
- Where they will not be physically injured?
- Where they will not be bullied, teased, or ridiculed?
- Where it is safe to raise their hands and be either right or wrong with their answers?
- Do students view the rules as fair and equally applied to all?
- Do you feel students and school adults show respect for each other?
- Do students express the feeling that teachers really care:
- About them as people?
- About how much they are learning?
- Do many students volunteer, such as in service programs, tutoring, or mentoring?
- Is school loyalty and spirit strong?
- Are students frequently included in decision making to resolve school concerns?
- Do most students comply with school and classroom rules?
