Job Description
DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Director, Office of Public Health Practice, UMDNJ-School of Public Health, this full-time position arranges, monitors, and coordinates fieldwork for students in the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program. Identifies, develops and maintains relationships with local, state, and national agencies/organizations, governmental and voluntary health agencies, professional associations, hospitals and medical care services to administer a purposeful fieldwork program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Oversees fieldwork to ensure quality and consistency with identified
MPH program goals and objectives. Designs, coordinates, monitors,
supervises, and assesses fieldwork and other learning experience for all
students.
- Identifies potential fieldwork sites and supervisors suited to the program's various departments by establishing professional relationships with local, state, and national public health agencies and organizations for the placement of fieldwork students.
- Familiarizes students with the real world environment in which public health practice and/or public health research is conducted and assists students in selecting a suitable fieldwork experience based on students' department of interest and career goals.
- Counseling students in understanding and meeting fieldwork requirements and timely completion of fieldwork contracts.
- Secures written contracts from fieldwork sites confirming acceptance of fieldwork students. Coordinates and maintains all Fieldwork Contract records of fieldwork students and related files.
- Reviews fieldwork responsibilities with site preceptors, students, and faculty advisors. Serves as a liaison between the Newark campus and site preceptors to communicate project goals and objectives.
- Ensures the quality of fieldwork experiences by reviewing and updating policies and procedures set by the Program Committees.
- Develops, organizes and runs seminars for review of fieldwork during the semester and the Dean's Review of fieldwork upon fieldwork completion. Reviews fieldwork reports and presentations.
- Prepares annual reports of fieldwork projects. Maintains and updates list of fieldwork placements.
- Seeks assistance of SPH faculty in mentoring SPH students in unusual instances.
- Assists students in exploring career options and locating employment resources. Takes the lead on updating/maintaining career services website and other aspects of career services. Collaborates with faculty/staff and student organizations among all campuses regarding career service related activities.
- Understands and adheres to UMDNJ's compliance standards as they appear in UMDNJ's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state, and UMDNJ regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree in Public Health plus two (2) years of public health experience required. Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) preferred. Excellent communication and administrative skills, and the ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with local, state, and national public health agencies and organizations required. Experience with word processing, database and analytical programs required.
