Job Description
General Purpose
The mission of the Global Health Leadership Institute (GHLI) is to build the next generation of global health leaders through innovative educational conferences and seminars, training, and research programs to strengthen the capacity of communities and countries to ensure health equity and quality of care for all. The GHLI works with health leaders to improve the performance of health systems through leadership development, management and quality improvement programs, and research.
GHLI seeks an Associate Director to be responsible for developing GHLI events and programs, with particular focus on the annual conference. The Associate Director will also be responsible for building strong relationships with GHLI conference delegates and other participants in GHLI programs; creating a network of alumni to share experiences, resources and information; and fostering the development of country implementation and research projects arising from the annual conference.
Essential Duties
In collaboration with the Executive Director, conceptualize and develop the annual conference. Identify themes, goals and objectives. Develop schedule; identify speakers and guests; and recruit GHLI Faculty, Staff Fellows and student support.
Ensure effective planning and management of the annual conference and other GHLI programs. Identify resources where needed and manage staff as appropriate.
In collaboration with the Executive Director, conceptualize and develop other events and programs that are consistent with the GHLI mission and strategic plan.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with GHLI conference country delegations. Proactively connect delegates to information and other resources needed to execute their implementation plans. Create a plan to measure progress on projects and provide support where needed.
Develop mechanisms to create an alumni network of learners for GHLI to foster cross-country connections, learning and possible collaborations.
In collaboration with the Associate Director - Resource Development and the Associate Director - Country Implementation and Health Systems Research, conceptualize project opportunities with GHLI country delegations as opportunities arise.
As part of the senior team, assist the Executive Director in developing and implementing a dynamic strategic plan and annual work plan.
In collaboration with the Project Manager Education, recruit and manage students to support GHLI programs outside of the annual conference through internships, program support or other opportunities.
Education and Experience
Masters Degree in Public Health, Health Administration or related degree and at least 5 years of related experience.
Experience and demonstrated success in global health program development, implementation and evaluation.
Experience working in global health overseas preferred.
Skills and Abilities
Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills, including ability to effectively present information in verbal form to a wide variety of stakeholders.
Well-developed writing skills, including the ability to write public materials and reports for various constituencies.
Personal flexibility and ability to work as a team player.
Ability to work on multiple tasks and projects at once and ability to work independently with little supervision. Ability to work in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment with some ambiguity.
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
