Associate Director Epidemiology Position / Infectious Diseases


Job Description

The chosen candidate will be responsible for the planning, execution, coordination of research activities/functions, analysis, reports, and presentation of results from epidemiologic research studies conducted within Merck Research Laboratories, with a primary focus upon Infectious Diseases. He/she will independently handle assigned duties and trouble-shooting to ensure that objectives of the epidemiologic research program are met in a timely manner. Works closely with Marketing, Clinical Research, Regulatory, and Safety Assessment/Risk Management; may work with external study investigators at external sites to coordinate activities for epidemiologic research programs.

PhD degree in Epidemiology or a closely related discipline, with at least four years experience in a clinical or research Infectious Disease environment. The desired candidate will have demonstrated expertise for at least four years working in infectious diseases, including senior level project management (or principal investigator), and direct supervisory experience. In addition to epidemiologic expertise, the candidate should have exposure to statistics, basic sciences and/or medical research. Must have strong communication, interaction and organizational skills, academic or practical experience in study design, and a knowledge of epidemiologic research, including statistics commonly used in epidemiologic studies. The position will support Infectious Disease drug or vaccine development from preclinical through post-licensure phases, and may include estimation of burden of disease and risk management support, through the design and conduct of specific studies. This position provides a senior level opportunity to contribute to strategy, clinical development, and regulatory aspects of Infectious Disease drug or vaccine development.
