Vaccine Preventable Disease Program

H1N1 - Health Data Specialist 3

(Special Services - Hourly Paid Position)

Purpose: To assist current full-time surveillance/data staff in conducting analyses needed to track influenza-like illness (ILI) trends associated with enhanced novel influenza H1N1 surveillance.

Job Duties:

- Generate H1N1 case reports from the Communicable Disease Reporting and Surveillance System (CDRSS)

- Understand, manipulate and clean case level data, based on established criteria, for analyses to assess the H1N1 situation in NJ

- Conduct data analysis for situational awareness on community-level spread of disease

- Interpret surveillance data and produce reports as needed

- Develop basic ad-hoc queries, forms and reports as needed to guide the development and implementation of appropriate public health response strategies

- Assist in development of instructions for data processing tasks for LINCS epidemiologists, local health department, data entry, and other staff involved in data-related response activities

- Conduct analysis on weekly surveillance data (laboratory, CDRSS ILI module) for inclusion in weekly report (to be done in conjunction with surveillance epidemiologist)

- Answer data-related questions from CDRSS users, LINCS epidemiologists, and other groups as needed

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree, including or supplemented by twelve semester hour credits in statistics, quantitative analysis, and/or operational research plus two years of comprehensive technical research and analysis experience in statistical analysis, public health administration, or related field, which involves the use, operation, and/or management of a database system. Applicants who do not possess a bachelor’s degree, but who do possess the required twelve semester hour credits, may substitute the remaining education with experience as indicated above on a year-for-year basis. A master’s degree in one of the disciplines indicated above may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Knowledge & Skills:

- Proficiency in SAS, SAS Enterprise Guide, MS Access, MS Excel

- Excellent communication skills

- Qualified candidates should possess a valid driver’s license and have own transportation

$26.80 - $30.53 per hour commensurate with experience - NO BENEFITS
