Vaccine Preventable Disease Program

H1N1 - Research Scientist 1

(Special Services - Hourly Paid Position)

Purpose:

To assist the Vaccine Preventable Disease Program’s (VPDP) Medical Director and Research Scientist 1 Epidemiologist, as an integral part of their disease surveillance team.

Job Duties:

· Provide consultation and technical assistance to local health departments, regional epidemiologists and medical providers in matters related to case investigation and management of suspected or confirmed influenza cases.

· Provide consultation and technical assistance to internal and external stakeholders in matters related to infection control to prevent the spread of influenza within communities and health care settings.

· Provide consultation and technical assistance in matters related to seasonal and H1N1 vaccine and vaccination protocols and procedures.

· Provide consultation and technical assistance related to anti-viral drug use.

· Develop guidance documents related to case management and infection control for various health care and non-health care settings.

· Interact with other DHSS and CDS teams, especially the Communicable Disease Service Epidemiology and Surveillance staff to identify changes in severity of illness or new/different risk groups.

· Monitor CDC Web sites and participate in conference calls and meetings related to influenza case management and infection control.

· Provide supervision of two Regional Staff Nurse employees in the event of the need for an after-hours shift/rotation.

· May be called on to assist with emergency response activities outside of normal business hours.

Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in a discipline appropriate to the position plus four years of full-time experience in a field appropriate to the position. A doctorate in a discipline appropriate to the position may be substituted for two years of experience indicated above. Qualified candidates should possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license and have own transportation.

Knowledge & Skills:

· Knowledge of principles and practices of modern research methods, evaluation techniques, and methodology of technical analyses and interpretation of results and findings.

· Knowledge of statistical techniques, modern laboratory automation systems, methodology, and procedures pertaining to the area of specific research and of methods of ensuring conformance therewith.

· Develop, review, and analyze all publications and other documents pertaining to current research development, and disseminate information to internal and external professional staff.

· Ability to plan, organize and direct the work programs and schedules of assigned research staff.

· Ability to prepare and direct the preparation of clear, scientifically sound, clinically accurate and informative reports of tests and other reports containing findings, conclusions and recommendations.

· Ability to write scientific articles and take an active part in meetings and conferences.

$38.67 - $44.17 per hour commensurate with experience - NO BENEFITS
